Part of The Golden Hinde’s 30th Anniversary: The Pearl of Bankside celebrations, this event is one of our After Dark strands - unique evenings of ideas, history, and exchange aboard London’s only Tudor galleon.
From beads to branded freebies, gifts have long played a central role in building business relationships. What began as small tokens of exchange has grown into a global industry, with companies using giveaways, samples, and crafted items to spark conversations and forge connections.
In collaboration with Vicki Thomas, whose Year of 'The Gift' 2025 project has inspired through pop-up exhibitions, historical and anthropological explorations, and discussions on topics from Henry Cole to women’s roles and the act of giving our time and expertise to heritage institutions, this event will explore how the exchange of gifts continues to shape commerce, culture, and collaboration worldwide.
Through expert discussion and lively debate, we’ll uncover the traditions and transformations of gift-giving - from historical tokens to contemporary corporate strategy.
