Extended producer responsibility for packaging: recycling obligations and waste disposal fees
UK organisations that are affected by extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging may need to get evidence of packaging waste recycling and pay disposal fees.
In the regulations, there’s a combined recycling obligation for ‘paper, board and fibre-based composite material’. We’ve added that to meet the recycling obligation, you can use any combination of PRNs or PERNs for: • paper or board• fibre-based composite material. We’ve also updated the table that sets out ‘packaging recycling targets 2025 to 2027’. The targets for ‘paper’ have been broadened to ‘paper, board and fibre-based composite material’.
Packaging data: what to collect for extended producer responsibility
A guide to collecting data about your packaging. This is for UK organisations affected by extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging.
In the section called ‘Examples of how to collect and report data’, we’ve clarified that organisations should collect and report the weight of packaging materials in kilograms (kg). We’ve also explained that, for plastics, large organisations should report the ‘packaging subtype’ as ‘flexible’.
