Spice Kitchen Joins Historic UK-India Trade Event at Chequers
Award-winning spice brand Spice Kitchen was invited to represent small British businesses at a landmark UK-India Free Trade Agreement event hosted at Chequers, the Prime Minister’s official country residence.
Founders Sanjay and Shashi Aggarwal joined a select group of British companies showcasing products that reflect the UK’s diverse and vibrant business landscape. The invitation marks a significant recognition of the company’s success, heritage, and international ambition.
As part of the visit, the team met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gifting him a signed copy of their cookbook Spice Kitchen: Vibrant Recipes and Bold Stories. They also spent time with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, discussing the potential of the UK-India trade relationship to support small and growing brands like theirs.
“It was one of the most amazing days of my mum’s life,” said Sanjay Aggarwal, CEO and co-founder. “To see her — a woman who started this business as a retirement hobby — standing at Chequers, meeting world leaders and sharing her food culture, was deeply emotional. She hasn’t stopped buzzing since.”
Spice Kitchen, known for its handmade spice tins wrapped in upcycled sari silk, has sold over 130,000 units and is stocked in major retailers including Selfridges, John Lewis and Whole Foods. The brand is also expanding into the US and is a key player in the premium food gifting market.
The UK-India Free Trade Agreement is expected to open new opportunities for trade, collaboration, and cultural exchange — areas Spice Kitchen is well positioned to thrive in, with its strong roots in both countries.
