New Business Launches in Exmouth out of Kickstart Apprentice Initiative

The successive Covid lockdowns brought many changes to our lives. For British illustrator, Julia Gash there was a huge surge in demand for her contemporary, map themed art prints.  Spending went online as people couldn't go to shopping and her spirited, naïve, local themed illustrations enabled people to bring their happy places, which they could no longer visit, into their home.

Needing help in her Exmouth based business, Julia took on a Kickstart Apprentice to help with the running of her e-commerce business: Grace Middleton. Grace quickly became her right-hand woman, printing, packing and shipping orders around the world as well as improving Julia’s online retail systems. In doing so, it freed her up to focus on her art.

When Julia moved home to Sussex last year, Grace moved on to pastures new but missed the interaction with customers at Julia Gash and without a helping hand in her art business, Julia was yet again overworked. A year later, Grace and Julia have come together as co-founders and directors of a new business: Grace’s Giclee Art Print Shop! A premium quality giclee art print and postcard printing service for artists and illustrators, providing a drop ship and online retail management service too.

Grace runs the day to day and Julia guides and mentors a young, female entrepreneur to run a successful creative enterprise.   Grace is more than happy to be back at the printing press: “It is our job to enable other artists and illustrators to create an income from their artistic talent by handling the printing and logistics for their online art print orders. It is a pleasure for us to see their digital artwork files come to life.” Says Grace.

Together the two female creatives bring a wealth of experience to a high quality printing service for other artists and illustrators that would like to monetize their art whilst retaining the integrity of their brand.  “Our ability to understand and assist artists and artisans in creating prints, postcards and greeting cards that sell, as well as providing guidance and the digital work to improve their online shops, is second to none.” Says co-founder Julia Gash.

“With more time to produce art and with Grace busily printing my work, we both got back to doing what we love and know.” Adds Julia.
